Officiating

Hockey Parents,

District 5 and the West Suburban Officials Association is looking for young officials that they can teach and train.  Being an official is an excellent way to give back to the game, learn the game better, and gain respect for officials.  Your player can some earn good money while benefiting their skills while skating up and down the ice officiating a D5 youth game!

Players can officiate up to one level below where they are playing.  Having your son or daughter start officiating when they are at the Pee Wee/12u level gives them ample time to gain experience and confidence and progress up through Bantams and 15U as they enter high school.  With weekends being free during the high school hockey season this gives HS players a good weekend activity!

All that is needed is to sign up as an official on the USA Hockey website. Take the Safe Sport Module, take the online open book test and attend one seminar annually. You are able to select the distance you are willing to travel and the dates/times you can officiate.  There is no minimum time requirement. Clinics are listed on the website http://www.usahockey.com/officialseminars
